Samba

Travel to New York brought me to the Zuri Mothership where I could try dresses and sizes to my heart's content. I never would have chosen this color or longer dress length but it was clearly a big thumb's up to my styling audience, my sister and daughter. For taller ladies, the long dresses' length fits just right. I get lots of compliments when I wear this colorful little number. This is a size small so that I am not overwhelmed by oceans of fabric, but means the shoulders are a little tight when I first put on the dress. The fabric does relax a bit with wear.

Samba is gorgeous and cozy. I wore it as a duster and it worked great. Could have read as a bathrobe but is structured enough not to. Thick fabric, warm on a windy day. The dress reads as a light blue even though the base blue is pretty bright. I didn’t give it five stars because I prefer the less busy version of the print. It’s on the back and sleeves and I wish it had been on the front. I’m normally an XL but I was nervous about too much fabric so I got the L. Itvwas a good call, though it was snug in the arms.

I was in NYC for a long weekend and my first stop was the Bleecker Street store. During an epic session of trying on so many Zuris, I decided to try a midi on just to see whether it could work on my curvy 5’3” frame. I was stunned. It’s definitely a lot of dress for a short person, however the silhouette is less voluminous and more of a true a-line than the classic Zuri silhouette. When it’s belted, it’s very flattering - the trick being to position the belt above the natural waist where your torso is narrowest. With a pair of boots, it’s a fantastic fall-winter dress. I’m absolutely thrilled with it and look forward to more patterns in this style!
